Overall this was probably my best race of the year. Our team's strategy of taking the first half controlled and working the second half worked to perfection. I took it out relaxed and probably should have took it out a little faster (but I'll do that at regionals). When we got to the dirt road I focused on blocking the crowd out of my head and staying contained in myself. I went up the hill controlled so my legs wouldn't be shot at the top and when I got to the top I felt very confident that I had a lot left in me for the second half of the race. When I started going down the hill I lifted up my head and started "hunting people" like coach would say. I immediately started passing a lot of people. I was running with Neil and Niall for most of this part and we all worked together to start moving up as a pack. I got to the dirt road and got tripped but I kept going and got my momentum back up. During the last 1k I picked it up even more and for ever person I passed I got more confidence. I had a solid kick at the end and got two Corning guys. Our team did pretty well getting 16th even without Dan. I was proud of our guys. I was happy to come in first on the team and lead the team something I haven't done before. Hopefully I'll be able to lead the team a lot next year. I think I was the 8th best soph overall. I came in trying to make the most of these last races and I succeeded.
