November 18, 2014 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: windy, cold, 30, sunny
Comments:
Annoyed that I didn't manage to run yesterday as the wind picked up, the temps dropped, and the leaves began their final drop of the season, I made sure to get out this morning around 9:30. Many leaves were falling, but the winds made them hard to track. I mostly sought out oaks and took a very meandering route down the leafiest streets I could find in Chevy Chase. Zig zagged my way south into Forest Hills and north back into Chevy Chase, DC. Made a loop down Bingham and through the upper trails of the Western Ridge. Finished near Lafayette, but when I was at 55 minutes, only .5 miles from home and stuck at 25 leaves, I vowed not to stop until I reached 30 for the day. That took me into Chevy Chase, MD and finally brought me to my goal in the 74th minute. A couple irritating bounce-outs (wore green gloves) and I occasionally took a poor line, but on the whole, a satisfactory effort considering the conditions. Would have been nice to reach 100, but I'll settle for the 90 I currently have with 11 days to go. This cold snap may finish off the best pickings of the season, though. Knees ached a smidge throughout, and I suspect I may be getting a small cold as the energy was low, everything ached, and my nose has been dripping since I got home.
