Lost in the Park

January 19, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
After having spent the past two days on the treadmill I was exited to finally get out and run, especially in nature. I started out with my mom and the dog at the Horse Stables (the midpoint of Satellite Loop) and worked my way along the creek, towards the larger riding ring. After rerouting from a premature turn, I made my way along the path for too long, and found myself weaving through and back many trails and roads to eventually find myself at the horse stables, our planned rendez-vous. After taking every path that leads off of the horse stables in search of my mom, I gave up and ran back to the car, where I found her beginning to question the safety of my solo runs. Luckily I had made it back before sunset. Despite the eventfulness, I decided to hop out of the car once we exited Rock Creek and run down military to get home, as the run had been a bit choppy and too restful (due to a lot of orientation pauses). Despite a slight lack of continuity, the run definitely felt crisp and good, even with the abundance of hills. The only part that I really wasn't happy about was the mud from the previous days of rain, which not only made footing tricky and subsequently decreased the pace, but turned downhills into mudslides that required hard, painful strides in order to halt momentum. Luckily my knees are feeling fine now, and I'm exited to resume real practices again tomorrow.
