Winter Workout

First (and last) AU workout of the winter season! Weather was fantastic, although in a few weeks I'll look back at today and think about how cold it was. Ran with Noah K and Sahil to AU at a conversational pace. Did the usual drills on the Track, and then did 4 striders.

Went with the medium group during the workout, which was 4x400 and 2x200, with 1min cool-down after the 4's, a full lap and a half after the final 4, half a lap between the 2's, and a very relaxed run back to school. The 400's were fairly consistent, and the whole group stayed fairly close together. I felt as though I had a pretty good sense of pacing, and tried to keep the 400's evenly paced within each lap itself. They all felt around the same: a tempo-like distance runner's sprinting attempt. Luckly, however, I felt like I had worked hard afterwards, and was 4 seconds away from a PR on the fastest 400.

By the 200's I was pretty tired, and, due to both not having done a speed workout in a while and also having little to no natural speed, I had some trouble accelerating past my usual distance race pace. I'm still plenty happy with it, however, because I think it may have been a 200 PR by a couple of seconds, not that I race the 200 all that often (or ever).

I feel as though I could have pushed a little bit harder and had faster turnover on the final stretches, but I guess getting up on my toes is just something I can look forward to working on in this upcoming spring season.
