Treadmill tempo

February 5, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I warmed up at a 2.5% incline at 8.5 mph. Felt fine on the warmup. I had no reason to believe this workout would give me any problems. Unfortunately I was wrong. This was a tough run for me. I set out to keep the incline at 5% for the duration of the tempo. I started the first mile at 8.5 mph. This wasn't comfortable the first few minutes but I hoped I would settle in and get used to the pace once I got going and eventually pick it up. I never felt any better and only started feeling worse as I went on. After the first mile I scaled the incline down to 4% and increased the pace to 9.0 mph hoping this would feel better. It didn't so I scaled the incline down again to 3% but kept the pace at 9 mph. At 3 miles this still was too tiring for me so I kept the incline but slowed to 8.7 mph. I pretty much maintained this for the rest of the tempo, playing with the pace a little bit to try and put some life in my legs, until the last mile where I picked the incline back up to 3.5% and then eventually 4% just to try and make it a bit harder for myself at the end. Despite my slowdown in the second half I still felt terrible. I'm not sure why I was able to hit the pace so much easier last week but this was definitely the worst tempo I've had this winter. I really want to shovel the track when the forecast looks decent so I can at least get one tempo on there. I cooled down at 1% incline around 8.1 mph. Probably the only positives of this workout are that I didn't drop out and I got 10 miles in total.
