Exercise Type: Run
Weather: indoors
Comments:
I'd jogged half a mile at 8am when we reached the meet, but other than that there was only 200m of jogging, 20 seconds of high knees in place, and and two 20 meter striders to loosen me up moments before the race began around 11am. I nearly plowed down Jay Jacob Wind after the starting whistle as I'd started on the outside in the back row. I got out to the lead in the first 30 meters with just Levi by my side. I unfortunately discouraged him and then ran the rest of the race alone... with just 15 people or so to lap 1-5 times. I felt very smooth and even throughout and was satisfied not to have anyone pushing me to work harder. I worked fairly hard on my own, and did try to buckle down when the pace was slipping in the second half. I glanced at my split every lap, tried to accelerate three laps out, and did get up on my toes a fair bit in the last 200. I won in 10:26.5 only about 1 second slower than when I raced freshman Zeke three years ago. I was plenty tired afterwards, and fairly satisfied. Cooldown was less than 400m and there was no stretching, unfortunately. wore the yellow and grey road racing flats and got some nice hot spots on the balls of my feet. Glad I raced.
