Long Run Back in DC

March 31, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Happy to be back in cooler weather, but not as exited to return to seven weeks of stress. Found out before my run that none of my emails came through while I was in Cayman, so I never confirmed my participation in the Sidwell meet. I talked to Anthony briefly when he happened to drive by as I was just starting my run. Hopefully I'll get a chance to compete, but according to Anthony, that may mean running a 400. Luckily, I had over an hour to sit with my thoughts and talk myself down from the fear of racing something so far out of my comfort zone. If I do end up doing shorter distance events, I think that I'll leave with valuable experience if not more direct application of my distance training.

In order to avoid a detour in front of Mazza, I swung around the block, then headed up Wisconsin to GDS. From there I took the usual route to Ward Circle, the followed Loughborough past Sibley to the CCT (!). I was a little tense on the long Loughborough downhill, but I lengthened my stride and let the hill do the work for me near the end. The trail was a bit lonely, as there were a surprisingly sparse assortment of running until River. I took the trail to Dorset, then went right on Wisconsin until the block before Western, where I went around the block and continued along my earlier detour to put me at Booeymongers (just to add on a few minutes), where I turned left and headed straight back home. I really had no idea of the distance, and because I couldn't find a running buddy, I couldn't tell if I was just feeling a bit lethargic form traveling or if I was going near the brisk end of my conversation spectrum. I thought it was the former, but it turned out to be the later. The run still felt good, and I'm excited to compete tomorrow despite maybe having to suck it up and take on an unexpected 400.

Note: Ran to Georgetown running and back about 15 minutes before the run to get a new watch ( I had to return my cousin's when I left the island). I would have just kept going, but I had to put the change and the packaging back, so I just embraced the fact that I actually did a warmup.
