Buffalo Marathon

May 24, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: warm, windy, sunny

Comments:
Got up at 3:45 to eat a peanut butter banana sandwich. Then I took a shower and ran half a mile on the treadmill and stretched until 5:45. Then we drove down there and I got to the start line at about 6:15 and started warming up. It was a pretty great morning for the run. My goal was to stay between the 3:20 and the 3:30 pacer. Honestly I would have been content with anything better than last year. I alternated each water station between Gatorade and water for the most part. I literally stayed within 10 yards of the 3:20 pacer for the whole first half marathon pretty much too because I didn't want to go too slow. Half way through I was feeling uncomfortable but not super tired or anything like that. I started to pull ahead of the 3:20 pacer after that very slowly. I fully expecting to hit the wall hard anywhere between mile 19-22 but it never came. I got really tired, and my muscles were aching like hell, but nothing like last year when it felt like I got stabbed in the thighs. I sucked it up and ran the entire thing without stopping somehow even though I hadn't trained since mid-March. Also I averaged my training pace exactly almost. I have no idea how. Maybe since I was lighter this year. After I finished, my vision was blacking out really bad for about 15 minutes. Overall though, it was a beautiful run and an enormous improvement over last year. I actually sped up over time and pr'd by over 21 minutes!
