My longest run yet

July 5, 2008 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Lovely

Comments:
My longest run to date - ever! Set off this morning at around 11am thinking I would run for an hour or so. I knew I wanted to do at least 10km. Set off but couldnt decide on a route - I'm bored of parks but like the fact that there are plenty of fellow runners around if I run in a park. For some reason, I decided to head to Clapham, a route I already mapped out and knew was just over 10km.

It wasnt a bad start, the weather was just fab for it. The sun came out occasionally which made it hot but when it wasnt out, there was plenty of wind and shade so it was actually really nice weather conditions. Probably why I ended up running so much!

BUT, stupid me. As i was running along the south circular, I noticed something on the road which looked like either a cat or a fox had been ran over. So I was running along, trying to identify this damn thing, not paying attention to the road and lo and behold, I tripped up! Went fying, shouted 'bugger' really loudly and sat on the floor for a bit examinbg my knee. I had torn my trackie bottoms and grazed my knee. But it didnt look too bad and there was no blood so I got up and carried on running.

On the way back, I was coming close to Rosendale Rd when I decided to carry on running. I'm not sure why, the weather was lovely and I wasnt too tired or too sweaty so continued to Dulwich Park. Got to the park and decided to stop to do a few stretches and sit ups. Looked down at my knee and it was covered in blood. Oops. I decided then that I really should get home and clean it up so didnt stay in park and ran home instead.

So, I still have a bloody and sore knee. But whats even worse is the fact that I wont be able to go swimming tonorrow! And, I'll have to go and buy some new trackie bottoms. Damn. I liked those.

Anyway, am really pleased that i managed just over 13km (8 miles). Stats are as follows:

13.39km
8.32miles
172 max heart rate
162 avg heart rate
10.36 min miles
5.65 miles per hour
615 calories

My timing is a bit rubbish - 5.65 mph isnt exactly great but then I did stop when I fell over and I stopped at the park when I realised that my knee was all bloody. Plus, there are a million traffic lights which always holds you up. But I am hoping that next time, I'll manage an average of 6mph.
