Solo Run

June 19, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I tried to avoid running alone, but I slept in too late and failed to make plans with other people, so I was forced to go for a quick run by myself. That may have been a mistake. I was feeling up for a run on the longer side of my training window, but I had to be back in time for my family to go see a movie, so I got a little flustered and went too far too fast. I went down Livingston to Connecticut and went south until Van Ness, where I turned around. The entire way down was downhill, so I opened up my stride and relaxed and enjoyed myself. But I forgot that the entire way back would be uphill, and I wanted to both keep my run somewhere around the 25:00 cap and make it to the movies in time, so I gave the run a little extra effort and reached a limbo point where I felt incredibly smooth and easy for blocks on end and then puttered out for a fel blocks soon after. Part of the way back was a tempo effort, which, to my shock, resulted in tempo pace. I know I shouldn't have pushed as hard as I did, but I just made a simple timing mistake, and once I got into the urgent mindset, I continued to rush, which eventually caused me to attack my final hill on legation. I felt stronger than I have all summer, which was great, but I also felt out of breath, which I felt guilty about. Like the training says, runs should and will have different efforts to them. I just need to remember that it's okay to embrace a shorter, relaxed run.
