Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mostly sunny, some cloudy times, warm but not hot... 70s?

Comments:
Didn't get up as early as I"d hoped, but after tow consecutive nights of decent sleep, I was optimistic for a long run. Set my sites on Altar Rock and ran through town around 8:45am. Took Milestone Rd for about two miles and turned left onto jeep trails. A measured mile along Milestone indicated I might have been at 7:10 pace, which may explain why I crashed so hard on the dirt roads. After about two miles of Eastward jeep trails, I spotted Altar Rock, and ended up having to bushwhack (walking at times) through oak hedges and heath to cover the last 200 meters. Paused for a good stretch at the FAA beacon and then realizing I was completely spent and only 46 minutes into my run... I headed north to join Polpis Rd. Hoping the bike path there would give me fresh energy after the sandy surface of the trails, I was sadly struck with exhaustion and self doubt, plus slightly rolling hills. The wheels came off and knowing I had probably 40 minutes to go with zero energy, I was far from optimistic. Indeed, I ended up walking a 100meter stretch before Moore's End Farm... (a new low...) Managed to push on to the water fountain at the rotary which was about 17 minutes from home and a great source of relief. Alas, the final stretch through town was no easier, and I was dragging myself the last few miles... as I'd been dragging since Altar Rock.

Took a good, long while to recover, several hours, really until I felt like I was myself again... I tried to bike with my family in front of the house for a few minutes and to swim for a few minutes at boat beach, but hip flexors, calves, feet, and back kept cramping. Struggled to walk up steps and do anything with any kind of speed... sit up, reach down, walk, etc. I suppose I was dehydrated form yesterday's run and I had felt exhausted all Sunday after a couple of weeks of short sleeps, etc. Still, it was impressive just how wiped out this run made me. Either way, this was supposed to be the final step of my over-distance training and now I can look forward to 12 days or so of relative taper for the race. (Don't think I'll be able to race my little 5km tomorrow as this run is going to take quite some time for recovery.)
