Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Started hot, but cooled down as the workout progressed
Comments:
We headed over to Mount Greylock HS for coed relays and after putting our stuff down, Pete gave us thirty minutes to warmup and learn the course--in this case both the 3k loop and the 2k loop. It was classic cross country with a few rolling hills, grass and packed dirt through the woods, with nothing to especially dread. The goal was to run beyond tempo pace for all three intervals. Dressed for the pool, it took me a little time to find a rhythm, but once I did things went pretty well. I passed Hiroshi during the 3k and spent the rest of the time trying to catch up to Alex Cowan. Recovery was ample and my New Balance spikes worked well. I overestimated the first 2k loop and had a lot left after that, so I tried to attack the second one more and four minutes in, also surged. At that point, however, the speed was not there. I am pleased with the effort and how I handled the long repeats. And yet where pace is concerned, surely I should be running a little faster than this for a "hard interval" workout. I ran back to campus with Ben, Bijan, Peter and Zach.
Strength: 20 pushups, 20 hip raises, 1-minute flutter kicks, heel-toe walks
