Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Beautiful, but chilly

Comments:
We left for Barber Pond in Vermont at about 9:30am. I learned something new about running today. You can feel AWFUL for an ENTIRE long run--from beginning to end, the whole thing can be a struggle. My legs were just not having it. I brought up the rear of the group for the majority of the run over rustic dirt roads past farms that all look identical to my untrained, suburban eyes. I dared not look at my watch, except once at 59:08 and a couple times during the last five minutes. I fought so hard to keep my composure, repeating over and over again, "Do not panic, do not get frustrated, the second you panic or get frustrated this run is over." At some points I could not help but think, "What the hell happened?! You're supposed to be good at this." I would be with the group on downhills, but the second the ground flattened there was 10 feet between us. Once we had decided to loop, it was the point of no return. Ben Decker told 11 miles into it, "Just reset the run, Liam. It's a four-mile run now," which helped a lot. He and Griffin also stayed back with me when everyone else spontaneously sped up. I'm happy to have done it, but was glad when it ended.
