Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Unpleasant

Comments:
Long runs are strange. Because we were doing a progression today, I tried to learn my lesson from the past two weeks and--much to my frustration ran with Matt Rock and David Azzara (who is coming into form quite well). There was a biting wind up in Savoy state park almost the whole time and I had stayed up late last night worrying about Westfield. As soon as we started, Rock declared that he didn't really know the route, which could have meant sticking it out with the top group as usual. Suffice it to say it's a good thing he asked Bijan to described it for him, because they did the entire run at 6:30 pace, something I'd be able to accomplish in theory, but definitely not today. The progression we started abruptly at an hour, running for 25 minutes at around 6:30 as well. We made if off the dirt road, onto the pavement, past the vans, down a long hill for a few minutes, before climbing back up and circling the parking lot. I cooled down by myself for another 20 minutes along the trails next to the pond.

Any observer would say I had a fine long run today, but these days I just become this bundle of nerves and can't turn my mind off like people usually do on long runs. Instead I spend the whole time fretting about getting dropped or underperforming, or wonder, "Am I ever going to be good at this sport?" All this is QUITE detrimental to sitting back and enjoying the run.

Last night I meant to go to sleep at 1, which would mean 8.5 hours of sleep, but then I noticed it felt like there was water in my ear. After trying in vain to shake it out, I attempted going back to sleep again, but couldn't because of the pressure. When using a hairdryer and q-tips and putting some contact cleaning solution in didn't help at all, (2am, now), I lost my mind completely. Finally at 3, once I had called my mom who's in Italy right now, I went to sleep and woke at 9 to find that she had made me an appointment at the Health Center. Long story short, now I don't just have a cold, but an ear infection too! I'm going to pick up even more antibiotics for that later!

I know it seems like I've been a wreck for the past couple weeks, but college IS going well and running would be going well if it weren't for these things happening. In any case, it's good to have Jay to confide in.
The positive things right now are that
1. My one class tomorrow has been rescheduled from 9:55am to 7pm so there's no way I won't get a good night's sleep.
2. I'm still managing to train at a high level.
3. Despite dropping temperatures, the leaves up here have started to change and campus is very pretty.
