Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Great race today. I was so much fun to run with the sophomore boys and warmup/race with a new-ish crowd. Jacob and I didn't budget quite enough warmup time, so the striders before the race were a bit rushed. But we got them all in. The race started quickly, with Jacob and I working together, continuing to slingshot off of one another and work our way up. At about the 1 mile mark, he made a surge that I didn't match. I was afraid that I was going way to fast to sustain, and a surge wouldn't help that. Looking back, a few quick steps wouldn't have hurt. The spacing stayed pretty consistent between us, but we were both working up the pack significantly. Mile 2 felt pretty good as well, but once we got to the back end of the loop for the second time, I lost my focus. Maybe it was the spacing--I could no longer catch somebody with only a few steps. It could have also been the repetition of that loop that caused me to zone it out. With about 500m to go I started picking up the pace (and almost caught back up to Jacob), but I really held off on my kick until I was on the track, which was a mistake. Even then, my legs felt really heavy and I didn't get that light, quick feeling that I got at Oatlands. Maybe that means I used more energy in my race, which is good. Anyways, I shouldn't be complaining, because it was an 18-second pr. In fact, all the Sophomore boys pr'd! We cooled down around the course loop, cheering for the Junior and Senior races.
