Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Not my best day I'll start it from the top. Got ok sleep last night about 8 1/2 hrs or so which is usual. I was hardly nervous at all I was more nervous in bed last night thinking of the race but the morning of I wasn't nervous at all. We got to Vanny and we got a nice shakeout run in on this one path that went on for awhile. After that we chilled for just a little and I forgot sweatpants or a sweatshirt so I was freezing. At about 12 we headed out for our warmup. We did a different loop in the other direction this time. We got to the line stretched for a little bit, i don't think this effected me in the race but just to be safe im gonna stick to my pre race ritual with no stretching. I stretch the night before. Then we headed out for a 2 min tempo. We went out way too quickly it was like race pace. Way to quick. We got back spiked up and then did drills and strides. I was feeling pretty good at this point and ready to have a good race. That was until the gun went off. I went out fast, way too fast. I was like sprinting the first part to stay in the front. Near the middle of the starting part someone tripped me and I almost lost my shoe/and or fell but I shook that off and moved up to the near front. I was already out of breath after 400 I knew that was something wrong. We got in the woods and I was in second. The top guy then dropped off and Kevin hazel wood from Brewster moved up and took the lead. I stayed right with him. He would kill the hills and I would fall back because my legs were exhausted then I would crest the uphill to catch up. I was playing catchup the whole race. The hills just destroyed my legs. My arms and legs were just so stiff it felt as though I couldn't move them. Like they were made of concrete. I tried to shake them out a few times but it didn't help. I was running side by side for the lead to a little after the mile mark and I just fell of the wheels. I lost the battle mentally. My legs were done from the top fast start and rigorous hills of the first half of the race and I was just thinking about finishing the race. On the downhills I ran down them with no holding back but I was leaning back and my form was terrible. I saw the top pack gap me more and more. I was trying to stay with them but just couldn't. We came out in the opening with the last half mile or so and I just wanted to at least hold my ground and not lose any points for the team. I was kicking as hard as my legs would let me but it wasn't even a kick. I finished in 13:10 a new pr but way off of what I wanted to hit I wanted a 12:45. No one on the team except for Cole had that good of a race and we were all pretty down. Our team won the race but that wasn't even the goal we wanted to all run well for the merge. We got a cool down in and then watched the eastern states race which ended up being a really good race some people had great races some people had terrible races. Then we got our team awards and then watched the girls compete. I just need to regroup and work hard in these next few workouts to be ready for the post season what really matters it's almost like a whole new season anything can happen.
