Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 50s, drizzling, wore gloves
Comments:
We returned to Cedar hill for the long run today. Obviously with Wednesday looming, I had neither the inclination nor the mental fortitude to do a "real" long run today. I will, however, come back to them in the coming weeks. I made sure to find someone else going shorter, so I'd have to honor our agreement, rather than realizing too late I'd have to do 15. Nigel and I ran with the top group plus David and Rock for about an hour, before turning around on Indian Massacre road and heading back to the van, joined by Ross. Nigel sped up a lot--and notified us that he was going to--but Ross and I kept it honest all the way through. It's not that fun to be doing such little distance, but I got all my best long runs out of my system in July and August anyway. Serves me right.
Another non-running problem with long runs is that I never know what to do with my stuff and end up throwing it one of the random vans that all look the same and in the rush to leave, have no idea where it is. Luckily Nigel found it and brought it to Driscoll. I really do need to keep better track of things like this--just the other day I discovered my gloves on the uppermost shelf in my dorm after thinking for weeks they'd been lost. And I'm supposed to be an adult . . .
It hasn't really come as shock to me that I don't have anymore XC season left. A year ago I probably would have handled these past two months far worse than I have; but watching the NESCAC race, and considering the strength of the guys running ECACs, how much would I have done with all the opportunities I've been deprived of?--finished among the last finishers in incredibly deep fields just to be a participant and do a few extra workouts and long runs for the sake of trying to PR in an event I don't even know how to run? Probably. But as Mick Fleetwood put it though, "Don't stop thinking about [two days after] tomorrow."
