Weather: Warmer than expected, low 60s?
Comments:
Today was a weird day. After staying up until 2am to finish my history paper--and rising at 9 to put in the footnotes that I could not bring myself to do last night and going to class, I went back to sleep until about 3:00 to try to beat this sickness into submission. Side note: that's how it always goes with me; large, abstract tasks like writing papers I don't find difficult, but small, nitpicking logistical ones, like formatting footnotes are enough to make me major in English. But I digress.
Feeling significantly better, I had a sandwich and took on a pre-frosh, Luca. Nick told me to do part of the workout if I felt up to it, but I had to go to Pietro to determine what parts to cut out.
On the golf course for the first time this year, with some hills involved:
3-minute Oslerian (10k, 5k, last minute split between 3k and kick)
60-second recovery
3-minute cruise--who actually knows what that means? Seriously.
60-second recovery
1200m at 5k
2:15 recovery
800m at 3k
90-second recovery
400m at 3k
My breathing was okay, but the legs were absolutely useless today. I felt so flat and could tell as early as the warmup that it would be sub-par. Even so, I suppose I'm glad to return to running. I did 1:15 planks and 60 crunches, and would have done more strength work, but Luca was standing around waiting to leave so I didn't. I've been having trouble coming to terms with the idea maybe I need to do less mileage period. Has it really been appropriate for me to run 60-65-mile weeks when I don't sustain them for any meaningful time period? It's just so important for me to FEEL like I'm in shape that I lose sight if what I'm getting in shape for. To counteract that I did sign up for the Fairfax Turkey Trot 5k, but who knows how I'll feel in 16 days? With only one class tomorrow, I'm aiming for an excellent night's rest and then putting my academic life back in order during the day.
