Comments:
Oh my god. I don't exactly know what happened today, but this workout was fantastic and definitely in my wheelhouse. Some combination of a good mood, already starting my research for history, and doing the run at 3, not 4pm made this one to remember. So I met Ferland, Nigel, Rock, Kilman and Byrnes at the Fieldhouse and after much debate we settled on out and back along Oblong from Route 7, aiming to do the workout Nick prescribed us. With one minor variation from his plan, it went like this:
15-minute warmup
10-minute tempo
3-minute recovery
1-2-3-4-2-1 fartlek, (honest) recoveries of 2, 3, 3, 2, 1 and 3 minutes.
10-minute tempo
Cooldown

I trailed behind Nigel and Michael the whole time, but stayed equidistant. I had on my dark blue shorts, wool socks, the teal and black nike long-sleeve t and the hopper headband--all this to say, I was comfortable. Very much in the zone after the first tempo, I accelerated a lot, especially on the downhills on Oblong. Who knows how much I've actually changed my stride, but it feels different these days and I'm taking many more steps. At a few points, breathing wise I thought maybe I was getting too aggressive, but my legs carried me through the whole thing--according to Nigel the second tempo was way under 6, but I felt like I could go on forever. Finished full of optimism, feeling like I could make something of myself and so glad to have done my favorite thing so successfully. For those 80 minutes, nothing could bother me--not Bijan, not Ben Decker, not Zeke, all these people who are faster than I am, it was like they didn't exist. Now I just need to feel this way the next time I run the 5k, and THEN I'll be in business.

I've done some assorted strength work the past few days, planks, crunches, pushups, clams, the usual stuff, but also did five pull-ups in the field house.
