MIV

November 26, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 46

Comments:
I didn't run this particularly well. That, however, isn't bothering me that much--because I got third behind two 30-somethings, evidently marathoners, because I've been diagnosed with bronchitis (which should go away soon, by the way), because how much can I expect when I wake up with minimal sleep, drive all the way out to Fairfax, stiffly warmup all by myself and run nearly the entire race by myself? I was, I should note, battling with this guy a little bit from 1.5-2 miles, but pulled away pretty easily in the end. They didn't have a mile mark, but I was at 11:07 at 2 miles. I wore my Nike Victories from sophomore year, sans spikes.

What I can't seem to get over, is how stupid a waste of time this experience was. Surely Fairfax County can do better than coming up with a race course by setting a few cones along the access roads to George Mason University. Something about this whole day--and again, not how I ran, because I lowered my expectations a lot the morning of--was just infuriating. As I was cooling down in some nearby neighborhoods, I just thought, "What on earth am I doing out here?" And rather than shooting for more mileage, as I might normally do, I just ran back to the car and left ASAP.

The rest of Thanksgiving day went okay, but I have a theory that deep down, everybody knows Turkey is the most dry, flavorless, disgusting meat of all meats and that this break functions more as a warmup for Christmas than the great American tradition it's supposed to be.
