Goals meeting

December 9, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Comments:
I sat with Barron at Driscoll for 15 minutes to, as my title says, talk goals.

1. The next time I run the 5k: 16:20 or better
2. Sub-4:40 in the mile and 9:10 in the 3k at some point
3. "33:20 in the 10k," his words, not mine.

Equally important, I mentioned the same ideas I've been writing about since Thursday: my athletic self and my personal self are two different things. I am not my PRs. Again, how could it have taken so long to figure this out?

I can't be stupid or compulsive about training. This means not doing long runs with the fastest people, not stressing about weekly totals and not focusing too much on results. According to Barron, if I can train at 90% for four years without getting injured, I'll be a far better runner than if I do the "Full Icarus," go crazy for a few months, then have to take time off, etc. HOWEVER, the difficulty is that I have succeeded in the past by being compulsive, intense and uncompromising. So it isn't that black and white, still something I need to keep in mind.

In other news, I can't remember a time when I've been less worried about school than right now. Every single good thing that could have happened in the past seven days did happen. Normally I start to languish right around the four-day mark of a break from running. But for now, I am more than happy to rest on my PR laurels before returning to training during finals week. Do you believe it? I'm happy!
