December 17, 2015 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Bleak and dreary
Comments:
I ran Blair plus by myself after my economics final. Finished in complete darkness. I have just two more tests, but everyone's leaving and absolutely nothing will be going on for the next few days. I should make sure I do my next three runs with someone else and in the daylight because, while I felt fine, I can't say this was particularly enjoyable.
Regardless, I'll have lots of things to contemplate during my solitary Christmas break runs. At dinner with Liam Simpson, Mitch and Noah--guess the slowest person at the table--they were all talking about breaking 16, winning things, etc. Liam was saying, "I'm very much a believer in 'you're only as good as your race.'" Their conversation definitely struck me because it's no secret that I've had 1-2 good performances; but worse than that, I'm afraid I'm not contributing that much to the team--if Sarah's remarks about me at the banquet ("Liam's a good conversationalist.") are any indication, then I must not be.
Looking ahead to the long journey that is track, I need to go beyond what I said at my goals meeting; I could probably apply myself more on a daily basis and be more goal-oriented, which certainly worked for me in the summer of 2013 when I had that notecard with 16:50 on it in my bathroom. Most importantly, I have to be more ambitious-- why SHOULDN'T I be as fast as Colin three years from now? Because I'm not "talented"? After all, people with worse 5k PRs than mine have reached better ones than his
