Mt. Sutro

December 28, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: upper 40s?

Comments:
Drove down from Petaluma to SF after a filling lunch. After a mini nap we decided to check out Sarah's apt near the summit of Mt. Sutro. Google said it would be 2.6 miles with a direct walking route that took me up stairs to a height above Sarah's and then dropped me back down different stairs to her apt. I tried that route, but admittedly took some poor lines crossing through Golden Gate park and ended up adding a couple of minutes probably to the route. The hills up the mountain were crazy in that SF kind of way, and I decided to try the staircase. It wasn't any better. Low concrete slab steps were manageable, but there were a lot of them. The peak of Sutro is just over 900 feet. The run must have climbed at least 700 feet and well over half of that was on the stairs. I never walked, but the legs were nice and beat and I was pretty wobbly when I reached the top. (Took 25:28 to get to her door. (probably 2.8 miles) On my return trip (after 20 minutes at Sarah's admiring the apartment and the view) I descended on the streets and built some pace, getting back to Si's in 19:55 despite having to backtrack again around the DeYoung. (probably 2.7) Not a bad day of running after yesterday's solid run (which I was definitely still feeling.) ankles were stiff later when we went to an amazing dinner at Mandalay.
