Track work in the dark

February 22, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: low 40s, a damp chill

Comments:
Set up this workout with Sam last night as I was annoyed with myself for not running again on Sunday. At 5:45am I ran down 41st and intercepted him. took Ingomar to Reno to Nebraska and up onto the Wilson track where we did one strider and located the 800m start mark.

Sam suggested doing 800, 400, 200 and repeating it a second time. Sounded good to me as I was seeking a jump start to speed training. We decided to just jog from the common finish line to the next start for recoveries, which works out well at Wilson for this sort of thing. Unable to get splits in the dark with my watch light not working. Felt pretty good throughout. First 800 was a shock to the system, but the shorter things felt very doable and I really dug into the last 300 on the second 800. Sam was nervous about time and quite spent after the second 800, so he suggested we cut out the second 400. I agreed, but would secretly have liked to do it. Splits were:
(12:40 warm up jog), 2:45.3 (800)), 75.8 (400), 35.7 (200), 2:38.7 (800), 34.8 (200), (10:20 jog home) All in all, I was very pleased to feel so good and to get it in. Lower left back was a bit unhappy during cooldowns- likely due to the tight turns and early morning. Otherwise, the speed felt good.
