Comments:
first meet of the season! I ran the 800 with Joyce and Mia. I was almost more stressed about leading our warmup than the actual race. Unfortunately I think we started too early (or at least it seems like we had a lot of time) and then killed some time until we realized they were calling our race after our second strider. my bad guys, sorry. But it was really nice to warmup and race with them, both because I was less stressed about racing because I felt like I had to be confident for my freshmen and because it was nice to hang out with them.
As for the actual race- I went out pretty conservative. I think I forgot what an 800 start feels like. After like 250 meters I felt it was going by so quickly and I could do this forever. By 300 meters I was changing my mind. I started to tense up and get tired and so I let a few people pass me. When I heard Anthony telling me to be aggressive at the end of the first lap I realized I had more in me than I had thought. I started to pick it up a little bit and had a decent kick where I passed a few people. With 200 meters to go I remembered why I love the 800 so much--because there are only 200 meters left after just a couple minutes of the race.
My time wasn't great--17 seconds off of my PR. But that's ok. I haven't been running much for the past few weeks and during the winter. More importantly I'm trying to have a better attitude towards racing and not beat myself up so much.
My IT band felt pretty good in warmups and totally fine while racing. It hurt a little after racing but not much! I'm a little worried about some small aches and pains that have been bothering me since xc (left big toe, middle right foot, and both shins in one spot but particularly right side. I'm especially nervous about the shin which was really bothering me after my short run yesterday, when I woke up this morning, and before and after racing today. I'll be sure to cross train some but given that its my last season, I'm inclined to ignore it for as long as possible
