I actually forgot how much I like Oakcrest. It's just a solid hilly run that we don't do enough. Today we started with the "team" warmup. But I Don't even think I can call this much of a team from what was going on in the warmup. They think its all a joke. About half of the people did a lap and a half for the warmup, and the other half only did half a lap before stopping. Literally only me and Silas were the only people to do 3 laps which was still less. I think its pretty pathetic. It made me pretty mad to be honest. I don't know if the coaches saw it or not, but either way they shouldn't have done it. I was even saying come on lets keep going but no one left. They haven't names captains yet so I couldn't really say anything yet but once they do later this week I'm going to say something. We are not gonna beat teams like Corning and Elmira by skipping the warmup, cutting runs short, skipping practice, and faking injuries that will only be counter productive. Yes track is an individual sport so at the end of the day it's their choice but I'm willing to step up and say something because if this becomes routine everyone will think it is okay to skip stuff and that's not what Ithaca track is about. That's it for my rant. The run today was really nice though. The snow was off an on throughout the run. Which I actually liked. It wasn't all that cold out and I was able to wear only a long sleeve. The run was me, Neil, Silas, Ian, and Ronan. Ian and Ronan fell back near the end of the run. Afterwards we did 8 strides and lifting. For Lifting we just did some tougher push ups, modified pull ups, and some weighting lifting above our head (I don't know how to describe it). I did abs at home afterwards. I feel like as a captain I have grown a lot. Yes admittedly I did have some mistakes this cross season. But what matters is that I learned from them. I don't think I respected the position enough and it was hard being under the shadow of Matt being probably the best captain ever. I feel like sometimes I would try to make everyone happy and not make good decisions in the process. From now on I'm going to be more assertive as a captain. i'm happy I had that first season as a learning experience because most people have only one year to be captain. I think that will help me tremendously to be a great captain for the rest of this year and next year.
