Grind time

April 2, 2016 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Felt ok on this workout. Felt strong and confident but at some points I just felt tight. My body isn't as tired as I thought it would be after a few tougher days. Anyways I had my 5 hour today so I wasn't able to do the workout with the guys. Silas and Coach W said the workout was great for them but I read Silas's log and he said he wished they would go a little faster on the 800's. I really focused on keeping my 800's faster so I would get the most out of the workout. I got a haircut then headed down to the track for the workout by myself. It was a little lonely but I just kept thinking about just grinding out the workout. I wanted to practice on pushing myself when I was all alone so today was good for that. I also just went my own pace for the entire workout. I started with a warmup into fall creek. Went a little longer than I wanted to but then I got back to track. Did some drills and then a few strides then started the workout. Immediately right before the workout in almost a split second it started to hail, hard. At some points I couldn't even see where I was running. It was warm before but then it got really cold and windy.
The workout was:
800 at tempo
100m jog/walk
200m at mile pace
100m jog/walk
200m a few seconds below the last one
4' rest between sets
X5
My first 800 I just felt bad and just tried to push through the wind. I was working extra hard on the 200's because of the wind. Especially the second one because it was right into the wind. Hit 2:38-32-31. Had to go in the bathroom for my rest because it was so cold and hailing so I jogged in circles in there. It was pretty bad. Went back outside just in time for my next one. Felt a little looser on this one for sure. I wanted this to be a progressive workout so each set would set the bar for the next one and I would have to go faster. Took the first 200 of this one out hard- like 35 and died a little bit for each 200 after. Went a little harder on the 200's but the hail still got me. Went back to the bathroom for my recovery but when I came back out it was sunny and warm with no hail. I was so confused. This made the 800's feel a lot easier and most effected my 200's. This 800 was a lot more consistent pace wise. Before this set I realized that this workout wasn't as long as I thought it was so it was important for me to kill the next 3 sets. The 200's I just pushed hard on especially the second one. I was out of breath afterwards. The next set was pretty much exactly consistent with the set before. I just got in a rhythm. The last set I didn't even check my watch for splits at all. The 800 felt fairly hard and I was focusing on not leaving much for the 200's because I will be in oxygen debt in a race for the last 200-400. The 200s I just got myself pumped up. Especially the last one. There was no one there so I just yelled "Come on!" At myself. It got me amped up. Finished the workout and then did a really nice cool down in the bird sanctuary. A good day of work on the oval.
