Some good takeaways from this meet and a few things I need to learn but I have to take it with a grain of salt, because it is the first meet and I have been killing myself in the past few workouts. Also these Corning guys have been racing all year winter long. Anyways got right out of school and got my arches taped just like I did yesterday for more support. Came out and immediately hopped into a warm up because me, Hunter, and Silas were decoys for the 4x8. We just did 16 mins into fall creek progressively picking it up, but never too quick. My tape was too tight so I took it off early in the warm up. Got back and was told that Corning was putting in their top guys so I didn't have to run the 4x8 instead I would be running the 16 and 8. I only warmed up for about a mile for the 1600, then me and Neil did a bunch of drills and strides. Went up to the line and was just chatting with Brian Bates before the race. I was expecting this race to be fairly slow so I was just chilling. The race started and I immediately positioned myself behind Brian and let him take the wind. The Corning guys would put on little surges where they would go fast when another one of their guys took the lead while the other guy edged me out. It caused me to have short bursts of speed to get around one of their guys to get behind their top guy and it was pretty annoying. I kept getting boxed in throughout the race as well. Anyways the first lap was very slow maybe 72-73. I was smiling at one point because it felt so easy and I was confident. The next lap was much of the same. Me sitting behind different leaders, the pace was about the same as well. The next lap was a little bit quicker but felt good about a 68. The last lap the pace picked up a ton which I wasn't ready for at all. I started pushing to stay right with Brian and at about 250 I made my move. This was a bad decision. I didn't account for the wind and ran right into the wind. I knew I couldn't turn back then so I kept going and at 75m left I thought I had it so I let off ever so little but that was enough for Brian to come back into the race and out kick me. I was pretty shocked afterwards. I wasn't gonna make the mistake of letting up too early happen again. I got done and felt like I had a lot left just couldn't push much harder in the race. Closed the last 400 in 60 and the last 800 in 2:08 so that was definitely something positive. I feel like in some races it's easier to go out at a certain pace and keep it so you can get into a rhythm instead of this race where we picked it up throughout. I feel like I couldn't gone a lot faster like a 4:22-4:24 if we went out at a good pace and kept it. After that cooled down for a good 12 minutes which was also my warm up for the 800. I didn't do many strides or drills before the race because my legs just tired, and my whole body just felt off, but I just had to trust my body. went up to the 800 line and was just ready to race. The race started out at a good pace that was more even. I felt re-energized in this race. Just sat right behind Kevin. We went out in 61 then right at 400 Kevin started picking it up as I thought I was going to fall off, but then with 300 left I started moving up. Some other kid from Corning passed me and I told myself that that wasn't happening. I made my move a little early again, because I had momentum going for me at the time and just wanted to pass those guys. I heard coach yell, "It's all downhill from here" and I pictured it at first but it didn't stick." I'm gonna have to get that into my mind overtime. Moshier got me again with 50 left but that was just because my legs were just tired and didn't have much of a kick left in them. Hit a 59 for the last lap. Tied my PR with a 2:00 low. This race was definitely a better indicator of the pace at which I can go. I still felt like after the race I had a lot left. I feel like my shape right now would be around a 1:56-1:57 but that is something to aim for next meet. Did a 10 min cooldown while watching the 3200 where Silas and Hunter looked good for their first race back. I tried to say the right things to both of them to get them motivated. Silas's kick looked a lot better and Hunter's was not bad too. Silas should've definitely went with Peter instead of Bryce because he's in better shape than both those guys and could've beat them both. Was definitely missing Ian in this meet and he could've scored some point for us but its better that he recovers. Was supposed to hop in the 4x4 but Corning put in their B team so they didn't need me which was definitely good because I was ready but tired by then. Got another 14 mins of cooldown by myself for part but mostly with Hunter and Silas. Then did 6 barefoot strides and a little bit of barefoot running about 900m. All the intervals between races 400-600m are my strides. The team caught the dub!
