Repeat 200's

April 14, 2016 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Definitely felt very sore today from the lifting. Me and Neil moved from the modified pull ups to the real ones and we are really feeling it. Today the rest of the team was off at another duel meet. But it was good we didn't go to that because that's just too many meet for one week and it would be more beneficial for us just do to a workout instead. Today we started with a longer progressive warmup about 20 mins in total. We went downtown then did a boynton mile. The last part was about 6:15-6:30 pace for the last 5 mins. Then we hit the track for some repeat 200's. We were supposed to be doing them around 800 pace. Weishaar said 28 or so would be alright. At first I didn't think I could do that but once we got started it wasn't bad at all. We had a lot of rest 90 seconds for 200m. And then 5 mins rest in between sets. We did 4 200's per set and we were planning on doing 3 sets. We decided to wear trainers for the workouts, I thought it would slow me down but it was fine. The first 800 was perfect. I hit 28.7. The next one was 28.4. These actually felt fairly easy, my form felt fine and it gave me confidence. The rest of the guys went at the same time as me and I tried to set a good pace they could follow. The next was 28.1. And the final one my legs felt a little tired but went through at 28 flat. We had a good 5 mins just to walk 200m and then chill so it was pretty much a full recovery. It was hotter than I was used to so I got a little water in my system. I was out the gates quick for the next set hitting a 27.1, way too fast. It felt really good though especially coming off of the long recovery. Everyone else went fast because of that, which wasn't my intention but it happened. The next one I tried to keep it a little slower on purpose. Hit 29.1 which was all right, I wasn't trying to makeup for the last one but just trying to keep it in control. The last two my legs were feeling a little bit of that tired feel in the last kick. Ran 28.4 then 28.1. I was ready to run the next set but once we got over to Weishaar he said that's all we need. I was mentally ready to go for a few 27's in a row but I think it was good that we cut it short because I already felt sore. Finished with a cool down through bird sanctuary. We got back in and did some lower body lifting. My legs felt heavy after the lifting but it's getting me stronger which is a good thing. Ice bath at home afterwards.
