Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
I didn't know what I was going to be running coming into today but I knew I would be just taking it as a workout, because Horseheads does not have that good of a distance team or team in general. Coach wanted me in the 1600 then the 3200 for a double. We started with a progressive warmup then we got back did a few strides and then hopped into a 1600. We had almost all of our distance guys in the race so we could make a huge pack and basically a wall so we could slow down the pace. The race started and this one guy who looked like a thrower took it out hard and we knew he was gonna die. We passed him after a lap. I was talking during the race to some of the guys so it was a fairly easy pace. The second lap it was just a huge pack of Ithaca guys maybe 8-9 of us. There was one Horseheads kid and I heard Hunter say "let's put him in the box." He was deep in the box at the 600 mark of the race and had to jump out into lane 4 to pass us. We came back down the 100 stretch and I sprinted in front of the guy and the rest of the guys engulfed him. He hopped back out into lane 4 again to pass and I sprinted ahead of him again. We had him in a box the rest of the way. We came into the last lap and Parker said "take it seriously." I think he didn't want us to embarrass the kid so we just picked it up a little bit. The kid was done, so we had Simon finish hard and get the dub. He broke 5 which is nice. I like all the rest of the guys finish before me, so they could have some of the spotlight. Someone had to finish last out of the pack and I was alright with it. We did a long cool down on the infield, then had to warmup shortly for the 3200. I didn't take the race as seriously as I should have. I should have used it as a mile repeat. In this one it was me, Hunter, and Silas. We were just supposed to tempo the race. We took it out very easy. We were just talking for the first mile. We went out in 5:50. After that, each lap we would put on a little pickup each lap. One Horseheads kid passed us with 2 laps to go so we passed him again and just picked it up a little bit for the last 2 laps. Finished the last mile in 5:04 which was a little better of a workout. The team won easily but I gotta work on being more mature in those situations. Yeah I wanted to go out there and have fun. But it actually wasn't all that fun when we were fooling around. It more fun when I'm in a mile repeat pushing myself like a workout to be honest. Hunter and I finished the 3200 in first and second but we thought Derf was right with us. But when we finished he was a little behind. I thought something was up. I think he pulled/strained his quad. I knew it was sore before but I didn't think it would get hurt. He said that he couldn't even do the cool down. He had to walk the infield. He seemed really aggravated. He just acts a certain way when he gets frustrated. I know having all these little injuries must be annoying but I know he'll be back and better then ever soon. He just has to push through this and look at it like a barrier in the path to success that he has to overcome. Me and Hunter did a long cool down on the infield to finish up. My arms were definitely off today, as I can see in pictures. I think I was overthinking them. I need to have them lower.
