My first log and my first 3k! I had no idea what event Weishaar was going to put me in until he texted me at 1 o'clock telling me "I think it's about time you raced a 3k". I was very excited the whole day up until 10 minutes before the race went off- I got the expected pre-race anxiety. It turned out to be a pretty chill race though.
There were only 4 girls who raced: Me, Charlotte, Amy, and Aleziah Brooks from Elmira. Weishaar told Amy, Charlotte, and me to try and get around 12 minutes for our time. Since i had never raced a 3k, I had no idea what that pacd felt like so i trusted Amy and Charlotte to help me along (I also told Weishaar that if he didn't give me splits to keep me on track I would yell at him after the race). For the first 3 or so laps, our Ithaca girls were together which was very nice because they kept me company. However, I got a little discouraged when we started because Amy was behind me, when usually she is in front of me, so I thought i was going too fast. Eventually Amy passed Charlotte and I and went off on her own. Every time I passed the 200m start I would crack a smile because Zoe, Lizzy, Devon and Simon were all cheering or doing something stupid so that made me feel better. Anyway, a little while through the race, I thought we only had 2 laps left, but when I passed the official he held up 3 fingers and I got a little bit angry, but that just made me want to go faster. Charlotte and I were still running together (I think she was a few meters behind me) by the last lap, but then Weishaar told me "UP AND UP!", which is his way of saying: it's time to kick. I thought i had a strong finish and I think my kick is getting better. I'm kind of annoyed though because this is the first race this season in which i threw up after. Weishaar told me i ran 12:09 but the official had me at 12:05. I wish i stuck with Amy or a little but closer to her to get sub 12, but overall i am happy with my first 3k and hopefully I can get that time down a bit sometime soon.
I did a 15 minute cool down along with 2 laps of ins and outs. (I was supposed to do 3 laps but the bus was gonna leave)
