ok so this is going to be a bit of a long log. I'll start small and get bigger, beginning with my race, then the meet, then the season, then track and running in general.
first the race- it was alright. I got the baton in 4th and handed it off in 4th, which is good, but an NCS girl gained a lot of ground on me and I think she was right behind me at the end, though I never saw and I didn't let her pass me. I feel like I maybe had a little left in me. Ran 2:36, which is one second off my PR. (it might actually have been a tie of my PR as the 2:35 might have been a mistake from when they entered the results of the EHS meet last week, but I've just been going with 2:35) I felt like I maybe had a little more in me and I wasn't tired enough after. It was really fun to be in a relay and Sarah, Abigail and Isabel really killed it. They were all consoling me on the line because I was so nervous, which I appreciated. I'm so so grateful to have gotten to race at ISLs and so excited to have scored a point for the team. I don't think I have ever done that before.
the day was filled with some incredible performances. I'm still so amazed by Aminah's throwing. It was also really fun to watch Katherine beat Taylor Knibb in the 32. The boys 4x4 team was incredible. A few different guys tried to pass Matt and Erkin but each time they pushed it and the other guys dropped out of the picture. Really impressive performances all around. I'm so proud to be on this team and to have raced with you guys today. We didn't beat Bullis, which was a little disappointing, but they have tons of talent on their team and we can't really match that as a tiny little school that isn't athletically focused.
overall I'm really pleased with my season. I made it through relatively uninjured. I took 29 seconds off my 16, 8/9 off my 8, and 3 off of my 4. But the most important thing is that I had so much fun. I've enjoyed every other season before this, but this was my absolute favorite season of my high school career. Thank you guys so much for an amazing season to close out my time at GDS. I love this team so much and it really is my favorite thing about high school.
this brings me to my final thing (yes, this log will end at some point) I'm not as satisfied with my season because I have enjoyed it so much and I'm not good enough to run track in college yet. (I'm doing xc and the coach said I may be able to do track if xc goes well.) I was realizing today that I might have run my last track race and honestly I'm way more sad about that than I thought I would be. The rain on the bus back felt very appropriate for my mood. I love this sport and I'm so sad it's ending. I've been doing track for 6 years now and I only stepped into it by accident. There were no other spring sports that I wanted to do so I did track. I met some of my best friends and it has become part of my identity. alright this is getting too melodramatic given that I might race at states. thanks guys for making it all the way to the bottom of this long log and thanks for a great 4 years.
