Fartlek the wind!

September 8, 2009 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Clear and mild. More great weather...except for the breezing blowing from the town dump.

Comments:
Another day, another crack at the 7.4 mile course along Washington Ave Extension. Felt a little sluggish today and was having trouble keeping the pace up, so I tried to do it Fartlek style and have burst of speed and then down to a jog. It seemed reasonably successful. I think I may have overdone it a bit last week with so many long runs. Good thing the tapering isn't too far off. I've been trying to get a good night's sleep each night, but still wake up not feeling entirely rested. Need to be sure I'm fresh and ready to go next weekend!

On a side note, I've seen a lot of wildlife out and about the last few days. Yesterday there were three wild turkeys crossing the road by the end of the mile sprint (looked like one adult and two adolescents). Today I saw a heron flying overhead and had a rabbit scoot across my path. My favorite of all has been the bats that I see almost every evening as I finish running at dusk. They're fascinating to watch.
