STACs @ Johnson City

May 19, 2016 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Windy

Comments:
My second 3k of the season. I was really excited because B, Lauren and Liam came to the meet so it was really nice to see them. I really like the Johnson City track, i like how it is in a valley. But apparently they constructed it wrong so then start and finish line is on the opposite side of where it is supposed to be, so that was confusing when i was watching/racing. Lizzy and I were the ones racing 3k, so we didn't warm up until about 7 o'clock. We ran uphill for half of our warmup, almost up to the middle school which was above the track, and then we ran back down and finished our progressive on the infield. I felt more tired than normal during the progressive, probably just cause i was running with/near Lizzy for most of the time.
After, Lizzy and i grabbed our spikes and headed off to do drills & strides. This was only my second time wearing my new spikes so they felt a bit weird when i was doing strides but then they felt good; alot lighter than my old ones. I'm usually pretty quiet before i race, so Lizzy and I didn't talk much after the progressive, i think we were both pretty nervous and in our heads a bit. We talked to Weishaar about goals: mine was to run sub 12min, which i was confident i could do. I was also glad i was seeded in the middle because i thought i would have a lot of people to push me. We checked in and headed over to the start line. Emily Mckay ended up scratching even after she checked in which was a bit odd, but she did run a few other events that day. About 30 seconds before the race went off, a girl (i think she was from norwich or whatever that purple team is) turned to me and straight up asked me "what's your time". It took me by surprise because it was very out of the blue and i thought it was a bit rude?? maybe i was being hypersensitive but i gave her the weirdest look and didn't really say anything back. oops. She ended up beating me which pissed me off but whatever.
Anyway, the gun wenf off and i think i had a really good start. my first two laps i felt really strong. By lap 3 i was starting to feel it. It didn't help that i was stuck in no-mans land for the ENTIRE race. There was a pack a good amount in front of me ans a pack a good amount behind me. I knew i was gonna be in the middle but I didn't know i would be alone. But whenever i started to lose focus, it was nice because people were situated all around the track so i had someone telling me to do something at every corner. For instance, Devon and Simon for part of my race were cheering me on at one curve of the track, Coach B and Liam at the other curve, Coach Weishaar and Lauren at one straightaway, and the whole team at the other straightaway. I had trouble keeping my eyes up and i felt like i was shutting down, but B and Liam always reminded me everytime i passed them. I felt actually really strong for most of my race even though each lap felt like it was going on forever. During the 5th lap i tried spitting cause i had a lot in my throat, but it ended up on my neck which was really gross and had to wipe it off which my uniform, so i think that lost me a few seconds cause i was fidgeting. I think i could have picked it up a bit more on my last lap, but i had a good kick at the last 200m. The last 100m Coach W and Lauren were yelling saying that i needed to pick it up if i was gonna get sub 12. I'm glad they did because if they weren't there I don't think i would have gotten it. I ended with a time of 11:58 which is a new PR by about 10 seconds!! I was pretty happy and i didn't throw up at the end of my race which is always a plus.
Weishaar seemed pleased with both of our races and said we looked strong. Lizzy ran about the same time as her PR so i think she was neutral about her race (even though she got 3rd!!!). We did a 15 minute cool down on the infield with 2 laps of ins and outs. I was really upset cause i went to the concession stand after my race to grab some skittles, and they were all out. That was all that i wanted after my race and they only has snickers and M&Ms. So i just grabbed both cause i was still hungry, but i did not feel satisfied. I crashed out on the bus after singing along to a couple of songs. Emma is nice to cuddle with
