Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
We got to the meet and it was pretty packed there, I liked the stadium but there was really no where to run outside of the track so we did pretty much all of our running in the infield. Started with a shakeout run with a group of the guys, did about a mile. After that I knew I had a while until my next race so I just ate some food and cheered the rest of the guys and girls on. Ian ran a good pr in the steeple but was caught in no mans lan, Silas and Neil looked pretty good in the mile and Silas just looked smooth throughout. And Ronan killed the 800 the hard way going out sub 60. Me and Hunter warmed up in the infield during the 800's, it was so crowded in there and we were just dodging people the entire 20 mins. I felt great during the warmup. My arms were not all that stiff and I was relaxed. We went up to the line and I was happy to get the inside of the track because it set me up with good position. The race started and I immediately got into good position on the inside of the track, I wanted to get out just hard enough to get good positioning. Some kid darted in front of me early on but I passed him immediately afterwards. We got through 300 and I let Peter take the lead as I went right on his shoulder. There was also another Corning guy on the inside so I could completely get right behind Kane. Me and that kid from Corning were elbowing for the next 3 laps on and off which was pretty annoying. I knew he was trying to get me off my rhythm and it did somewhat work. Came through in 70, which was perfect. The next lap we kept the same pace. Hit 70 as I held my positioning. My legs felt a twinge of fatigue but it was good fatigue as it was what I should have felt like. But after the 800 we let up the pace and my legs felt fresh again which they shouldn't have, I should've kept that feeling of fatigue going. In the middle of the 3rd lap Weishaar said "If you're feel great just go for it" I wasn't feeling great but I was feeling good enough to move up and take the lead. I was reluctant to take the lead because I like sitting back and seeing everyone's moves before they make them, it gives me confidence that I can cover them. But if I wanted to get the most out of myself I should have taken over and took the pace hard, and gotten more out of myself. I'm ready to take the lead in my next race if I'm not feeling tired from the pace I'm racing in. Instead I was stuck in the pack getting elbowed and having my legs get cut off from behind. Came through that lap in 74 and the next lap was the same as I heard that I was at 4:48 at the mile. From there Kane dropped off the lead and the Binghampton kid picked it up. I started feeling pretty light headed and crappy from not being hydrated enough from here but I just tried to stay as relaxed as possible. We want a little faster than the last 2 laps from here, and this is the part that if I had taken the lead I would've worked a little more. The 3r quarter of the race was 2 73's. The fact that going into the 2nd to last lap and my legs not really feeling all that fatigued was a testament that wasn't pushing myself enough. My body was ready to take the lead as I put on some surged to move up but my mind just wouldn't let me, and I was telling myself to stay back and be patient. At 600 I should have just put on a surge and squeezed the pace down from there on. I continued to sit through the second to last lap and we went through in another 73. A Maine endwell kid took the lead for the last lap and pushed it a good amount. I stayed on him but gave him a little too much room. I made up the gap and passed him at 200 but that was a little too early as he got me again with about 50 meters left and won. I was pretty mad at myself afterwards. But it was a solid race on a day where I didn't feel my best throughout the race. I should have taken the lead earlier and dictated the pace to how I felt at the time. But I can only say so many woulda shoulda coulda's and really just have to focus on learning and building from my mistakes. I also just have to learn how to get the most out of myself while racing. Cooled down with Silas and Hunter. Hunter hit a great time in straight up no mans land which is tough to do.
