Sectionals 2016

May 26, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: HOT

Comments:
I was really excited to be running the 1500 with Char. I was hoping to break 5:30 and get a bit closer to 5:20 cause that was my goal this season. The Horseheads track isn't very nice and it didn't feel like a very big/high pressure meet when we were there. It kind of felt like a dual meet for some reason. It was also annoying that there were only 6 lanes and no turf.
Char and I warmed up a bit too early. We warmed up when the meet started and we still had a while before we went off. It was really hot and my breathing wasn't doing so great. I think the sudden change in weather has been affecting my asthma because it takes a lot of effort to take full breaths and my breathing is very heavy. My legs also felt really weak and Char and I were saying how we felt sluggish. Our warmup was a bit confusing because we couldn't find a way to get back in to the track so we kept running in circles/back and forth. After, I inhaled and we went to the infield to do strides.
I was seeded 13th out of 16 girls (i think) and Char was seeded 10th. Weishaar always asks me if i have a race strategy before, but i never do. I'm not the type of person to plan out each of my laps before they even happen, i just like to go when i feel good or when i feel it's right. I felt really sick to my stomach even though I wasn't nervous so that put me off a bit. We got on the line before the official was even over at the 1500m start (i think everyone was just anxious). It took the offical a few minutes to get over to the start and we had already lined ourselves up and everything. We were all so crowded though because there were 16 of us on a 6 lane track.
The race started and I think i got out really well. After the first 100m or so i settled into my pace and stuck with it. Apparently our first lap was pretty speedy, which isn't suprising considering we had a bunch of good people in our race. I love hearing Weishaar cheer/tell me to do things during my race because it pulls me back in and i am able fo focus more. I think i raced strategically and stayed close to one Horseheads girl for the first 2 laps and Weishaar told me to hang on to her because she was dying. I started picking it up and passed her. The last lap i picked it up even more and was determined to pass a different girl about 50m in front of me. I was so tired and I couldn't breathe well at all but i caught up by the last 100m and out kicked her on the straight away. I didn't throw up after either!! (not sure if that's a good or bad thing)
Char said she felt slow- I did too. Char got a seasons best, but she was still upset which is understandable. I ran 5:33 which wasn't slow for me but again i was hoping to at least break my PR and get sub 5:30. So i was kind of bummed but i'm really proud of how i raced and my finish. I guess there are good things and bad things to every race. I have PRd at every meet this season except for this one, and i was hoping to have a killer race cause there were more people i could pace off of, instead of running by myself, which i have been for every other 15 this season.
We did our cool down on the infield for 10 minutes (and NO ins and outs) which was nice because i ran barefoot. We cheered on some girls and boys racing and i hung out with Hannah for a bit and we talked about her first year at college. By the end of the meet we were in second place to corning. Sylvie was still pole vaulting though so if she won, then we would get ten points and win sectionals! She won ans broke the school record which is crazy. And all of the girls were SO happy we won sectionals. I think everyone, especially the coaches were very shocked that we won considering that on paper we wouldn't have come close to winning, and that the girls haven't won any meets this year. I think because everyone was here and giving it their all and earing some small points in unexpected places, we were able to win. Also we had people doubling and tripling in events which takes a lot of work so props to them. I think our team has made a big comeback since the beginning of the season and people don't think we are that good this year. The bus ride home was nice cause everyone was happy. Sylvia gave us donut holes:))
On another note- I'm going to a chiropractor tomorrow morning because my back has been hurting since the end of cross and i kept telling my mom to make an appointment but she didn't think anything was wrong. Finally she made one because i kept asking her. Super pumped!
