I'm super pleased with how today went. Amy, Grace, and Zoe took it out fast so I just settled in a good place behind them, For the first 1200m I would say I was a good 80 meters behind them. I was just thinking about the womens 5k the night before and just made sure not to let the gap grow. When I went through a mile I was about 10-20 meters behind maybe and clocked 6:29 for the first mile. I didn't want to make my move too early, I waited until there was about .8 miles left to go until I pulled even with Grace and Amy. Then I tried to crank the pace up down the back stretch and really just kicked it in as fast as I could for the last 400m. The time wasn't super fast but if my first mile was 6:29 it means I must have ran a very consistent race. Despite the time, I think that was the best I have ever strategically raced in my life. Mentally there wasn't a second when I thought I couldn't catch the girls or pull ahead, I just made sure to stay confident and never lose contact too badly. I think I can go faster than that but I wouldn't have been able to if I tried to take the pace out myself. Our pack was really good and we all finished close to each other which is really good. Overall, super pleased with today. There was also a huge cookie at home which made me v happy. This week has been a huge increase in mileage for me. Going to get a deep tissue massage at 1.
