Comments:
This was a great race. I started out a very fast pace in the beginning, if maybe too fast. Whenever someone tried to pass me, I wouldn't let them. I really tried to stay with Jeremy and Devin, and I never let Jeremy get more than 50ft away from me. I did not allow myself to settle during the 2nd mile, and down in the low dusty place I was really trying not to slow down. I powered up the hills, but I felt like I did not kick well enough at the last 800-400 meters. My main gripe is that even though raced the hardest I have all year, I still felt like I had something left.
What I learned: Start out fast and keep it, it is much better to be in 20th and drop to 30th than 80th and rise to 60th. Plus, going fast in the beginning sets a tone for the rest of the race. Also, competing with Devin and Jeremy really helps me go a lot faster. For McQuaid, I am aiming to beat Devin or Jeremy.
