Super pleased with today. Not necessarily the time, but mostly with just how I raced and my mentality throughout the day and the race. Not unhappy with my time though because it is fairly close to what I ran last year at the end of the season and I wasn't sure how fast I could go given only having run like twice last week. Before the race I wasn't nervous at all I was just really excited and I actually wanted to race, this is a rare feeling for me as I usually dread the race. Felt pretty good on the two minute tempo less sluggish than usual. During the race, I made sure to not let Lizzy get too far ahead too quickly so I made sure to get out fast which I think works well for me. If I loose her too early then I will probably slow down throughout the race. Mentally I just focused on the girl in front of me and worked on not letting any new gaps form and closing old gaps. I never quit and kept on pushing which is something new for me as I sometimes let off the gas a little bit. The whole race I was like panting with my mouth wide open because I couldn't breathe out of my stuffed nose. In the last stretch I got passed by two girls which was a bummer, but I ended up beating a girl from FM which is cool. What I am taking away from this race: get out hard, have more confidence in myself (this helped me believe that I am fit even though I haven't done so many miles), if a girl passes me try and follow her surge and stick with her.
