Comments:
Writing this a few days after the meet. I wanted to take time to think about the race before writing.
Been sick all week, stayed home on Wednesday, so I didn't feel fantastic the morning of the race. Wasn't very hungry, but still at 2 scrambled eggs and half a bagel.
Had a game plan of sorts, start with Daren, letting him pace me on the first mile, then picking up the pace after the mile mark. I did end up starting the race with Daren, sticking together and working together on that opening mile. However, after the mile, Daren started picking it up and I couldn't keep up, I started feeling nauseous. Second half of the race was just a slog, dry heaving at various points. My mom told me that she had a 'lovely' picture of me in the act. I could see Tommy at some points, but couldn't make any headway. Ended the race just feeling awful, wiped out.
Takeaways:
- Jeremy and Devin went out at 5:23 and ended up having great races, maybe I should try the same at our next race. If they can do it so can I, we train together.
- I have noticed over the past few years that I seem to do better, when compared to others on the team, at smaller meets that big meets like Pre-states. Is it an issue with focus?
