Warmup and cooldown distances are approximate.

So, I didn't feel great yesterday and that seemed to carry over to this morning. I got up on time to make the bus, but then decided leaving the house did not seem like a great idea yet. Luckily, I felt better later and got in a few miles around my house, on the grass and road. That was my "running the course," even though I didn't get to run the course beforehand. I was fortunate that my dad was willing to drive me to the meet though. When I got there, I happened to run into B and Liam, and they told me where the tent was. Got to the tent, but arrived just as the other JV guys were leaving for their warmup. Did mine by myself, running a loop around the park. Got back, put my bib on, and went over to the start. Everything was a little rushed for me though because I was late. I think arriving late to the meet and not spending the morning with the other guys put me in a different mindset, one not as suited as winning. Last race for me, at Park Station, I started out too quick, so today I took it a little slower. BAD DECISION. I staratdd out behind everyone else on our team, but passed Walter just under a mile in. I just felt distracted during this race. Also, who though it was a good idea to run on the road in spikes, on the area near the highway? During the last mile, I started hunting people a little bit, but I had not put myself in a good enough position during the first two miles. There was this one 7th grader in blue and yellow that was with me for about the entire race. Pretty cool seeing him there competing with us, and he's small, so another connection for me. Towards the end of the race, I passed him and created a little distance, but he caught up to me. We each had a great kick, but whether intentionally or not, he elbowed my hand as I was sprinting to the finish line, and that put me out of my groove, and he beat me. Not happy with my performance for this race. I should've started out faster, but I was distracted, not in the right racing mentality. My placement on the team was much worse too. Congrats to Samson and Garrett though, they had great races. Another though: why can't the race be made to be 3.1 miles? It's not like there isn't enough room. I did like the rain and course though, and tried to smile a couple times during the race, but it felt like I was using unnecessary energy. Anyway, got back and did a short cooldown, watched the big boiz get 2nd place, gave some of them a congrats, then went home with my dad. I really need to prepare myself better mentally for Wednesday, and for the future.
