Concord The Creek

October 1, 2016 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Title is because at the starting line, a girl told us she was from Concord and asked where we were from, and we said DC, and she said that was far, which I thought was funny because I thought she meant concord, New Hampshire, but apparently, there's one in Delaware.

Anyway, the meet went really well, and was a lot of fun! I'd kind of worked it up in my mind to be a crazy hard course where you go down a huge hill the entire first mile and the whole rest of it was uphill, but it was really more just rolling hills like Oatlands or Durwood(?) Derwood(?). We ran most of the course for a warmup where I felt pretty bad and tight and I didn't think the race was going to go very well, but I had a really nice chat with Sarah Pillard which helped! My race, me, Jenna, and Gigi was second which was perfect because we didn't have to rush or wait around too much. It rained a bit during the freshmen boy's race and our warmup, but by the time we got to the line, it had stopped which was great.

Anthony gave us a lot of specific instructions about how to run the race, and I tried to follow them as best I could. It was very helpful, because otherwise, the hills would have definitely psyched me out. The whole thing felt really quick though, and there was so much great cheering!!! I think I saw Anthony six times during the race--he must have been teleporting! Also, loved Isabel, May, and Sarah's cheering! I actually really liked the death march because it didn't feel that bad to me, and I passed like 10 people during it which made me feel good! The last hill was the hardest for me, but I felt also like I could have gotten up it faster. After the race, Gigi and I went to cheer for varsity races at the death march which was a lot of fun. Everyone looked so so strong, and I wish I'd gotten to see more races.

Overall, I'm really happy with my race. It's still not fast, and I know I can definitely do a lot better if my shins hold up enough to actually train, but it's about a minute faster than flint hill, and a lot hillier! I'm so glad I went to Salesianum this year because it was a fun meet and a really good team-building day! Everyone worked so hard! I love all you guys so much!!!
