October 5, 2016 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Why is it still warm
Comments:
I went into this race wanting to stick with Devin and beat him at the last 1/2 miles of the race. However, it did not work out that way.
I started off too fast, around the top 5 people, but and I held on, until the uphill, when people started passing me. At the top, I dropped to ~15th, and kept it for the rest of the race. The problem was, Devin wasn't there to set a goal during the race, so I kind of dilly-dallied around in the woods, with no real people to chase. What I should have done was get up with Simon and Darren at the top. Soren and Jeremy were right on my heels, and I didn't see Devin go down, so I assumed he was right behind me as well. This feeling of Devin right behind me when he wasn't compelled me to go faster, and also coined the term: InvisiDevin. I really let it fly on the downhills, and did not hold back at all. The last 400 I started to go faster, but I didn't really kick. The last 100 meters I heard someone behind me so I sped up a lot and didn't let them pass me. At the end I was tired, but it wasn't anything like the end of Mcquaid.
Things I learned: I need to work on running by myself, and having a second plan. When Devin wasn't right in front of me, I didn't know who to chase, and couldn't push myself while I was alone. I should have gone for Simon and Darren in the woods. Also, I need to start out fast, but not too fast. I started out in front of Xander this race, which was definitely too fast. Lastly, I need to start the kick out farther, it really helps. Overall, I r8 it 5/10.
