Exercise Type: Run
Weather: low 70s.
Comments:
Started out the run feeling pretty slow. Usually I feel a little sore the day after a workout, but not today. I'm not sure if that's because the actual workout was shorter, although higher intensity. Maybe I should do an extra rep or two next time. Anyway, after crossing the train tracks into Stewart, I was behind the pack of guys. These past couple of weeks I have noticed that I'm more frequently falling behind on our runs. Either I'm getting slower (is "burning out" applicable?), or the other guys are just getting faster. I'm guessing the latter. I mean, Garrett and Samson seem to have improved their 5k times each by a few minutes. I also have difficulty starting out faster on runs sometimes. I've noticed that it can take me a couple miles to get into a comfortably fast pace that I can sustain for a long run. This is probably true for other people too on the team, but more so for me, it appears. During the beginning of the run on the Waterfront trail, it's not like I was slacking off, I just didn't feel the energy in my legs yet. Not quite sure why. I was behind, but the ran into a couple long crosswalk stops which put me even farther behind. I've never done a Wild Wings before, so I asked some of the guys before the run where to go. One just said it's hard to explain and didn't give me a good answer. I saw the other guys go onto Brindley St., so I went that way, but then ended up cutting behind Wegmans and into the parking lot. I then kept going through the strip malls, which makes for a very boring and not aesthetically pleading run. Took a right onto the dike by Wild Wings, and then crossed the train tracks and came onto 5 Mile Drive from Inlet Rd. I ran on Inlet Rd. and the dike two weeks ago by myself, so I knew where I was going. I also live on Coy Glen Rd. Then headed North along 5MD, and came back to IHS through downtown. I picked up the pace more by the time I hit 5MD. As I learned when I got back, I was supposed to go through the Jungle, along the Waterfront, and then cross Route 13 onto Spencer Rd, and go back via the roundabout. I did Inlet Rd. to Spencer from my house two weeks ago, but wasn't aware that Spencer Rd. is part of the Wild Wings Run. Got back and did drills, strides, and some stretching, then went to a rally at IC organized by faculty. I probably wrote too much about the run for a log, but I like to recount my thinking sometimes. Another day of work.
