This was a great race. After doing the warmup, getting on the line, and doing some drills and strides, I felt light and confident. The race started and I probably didn't start quite fast enough, and I had to push and jostle my way to where I wanted to be. On the back loop far away from the start I was concentrating on not falling asleep, and chasing after Xander and Simon. My mile time was around 5:28. The next mile I was working on getting closer and closer to Xander and by the 2nd mile mark I passed him and tried to put some distance between me and him. By this time my legs were dying and my lungs were dying but I didn't slow down at all. The last 800 I was trying desperately to hold on, and all that mattered was not being passed by Xander or Simon. The last 400 I sped up and I gave it everything I got. I finished with a pr and cooled down with the rest of the team.
What I learned: Even if it feels like you cannot go on, you can, I felt like I would not be able to finish the race by the 2 mile mark, but I didn't slow down and I did do well. Also, a solid kick is very important. Lastly, I need to hunt down people better. I didn't get passed by anybody, but I could have been looking for people to pass in front of me. Basically, go all out, and even if it feels like you can't go on, you can.
