Waterfront Mile Time Trial

I decided to do a one mile time trial so that I can measure my progress over the course of my winter training in terms of speed. I ran from my house on Coy Glen to Floral Ave, then to the start of the Waterfront Trail. While it's not a track, it's almost completely flat, save for a short dip near the first bridge. Anyway, I did a sort of out-and-back, and the first half of it seemed to go very well--I was on pace to beat my mile PR, a smoking 6:30 from the Ithaca Festival Mile. On the way back, however, I realized that I was running against the wind, which slowed me down. I ended up getting 6:40. Yes, I didn't have any adrenaline or competition, so I was going to be slower, but I haven't timed a mile since June, so I thought that I would easily PR. I was going around 90-95%. Well, I guess this means that I have a lot of room for improvement this winter. I can't expect to compete with anyone if my mile is this slow. I then ran back to the bottom of Coy Glen Rd., then ran up it, which is tiring because it's pretty steep. I only did 4 miles, but it was a quality 4 miles. I then did some light upper body lifting at home. On to tomorrow. Let the grind begin.

Update: turns out the pain that I had been experiencing in the back of my left ankle since STACS is likely my Achilles.

Update #2: Did abs later on. 60 crunches, 30 leg lifts, 100 cherry-pickers, and a 2 minute plank.

Update #3: I guess I've got to take a break for a week or two, so I'll start putting in real work after that.
