Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Warm and muddy af

Comments:
I did my drills and strides before the race, and I felt fatigued. My legs didn't feel fresh at all, and it felt like I had raced earlier that day. I had never felt this way before a race, and I couldn't tell if it was the nerves or if my legs were actually tired. I started the race, and within the first 400 I felt really tired. My legs just felt dead. Again, I couldn't tell if this was just nerves, but either way, it threw me off and also made it hard to run fast. By the 800 I was very near where I wanted to be, but I was too far away from Ben. I really should have pushed through the tired feeling in my legs and ran along with Ben. I was near Noah by the 1 mile, so I knew something was up with him because I didn't feel good at all. Going up the big hill I didn't feel strong, but I tried to at least go up at a good pace. At this point, I didn't feel like I was racing, I felt like I was tempoing, but my legs were too dead to do anything. Looking back, I really should have stayed with Ben the entire race, I know I could have. I stayed with Noah for far too long, instead of ditching him and moving on to the next person. Coming up from the flat, low bit I went up the hills and felt completely destroyed. I was seriously catching up to Noah on the hills, but didn't quite pass him. When the 400 came around, I started to go faster, but I didn't kick that hard. By the 200, I seriously sped up in order to pass Noah, and I am pretty sure I dusted another runner. However, Noah sped up as well and I couldn't quite pass him. I felt ridiculously tired at the end, but I feel like I didn't give it my all. I felt weak throughout the whole race, and instead of pushing throughout, I raced like I was weak, and I know I am not. I felt really awful, emotionally and physically, after the race. I really hoped my last race of the year wouldn't be like this. However, It gives me a lot of hope because I got 140 speed rating, and I felt like I had an awful race. I am looking forward to next season!

Things I learned: No matter how awful I feel, I need to push through and race hard. I also need to set a high goal (ie. Ben) and chase it like my life depended on upon it. I know I could have been up with him, or even beat him. Also, I had a good kick, but I need to start it earlier. I need to start passing people at the 800 and start going really fast by the 400. Lastly, I need to work on cresting the hills.
