Slept until after 8! and headed out before breakfast. Intercepted Lew in downtown Petaluma by design and after walking with her for a few blocks, I continued over to I street and turned back before the decent to the big rock. This run felt awful. Everything was heavy and slow and frustrating. I paused for a thorough mid-run stretch at the turn around and it helped me shave 1:15 off the return portion down to Sunyslope, but I sitll didn't feel good. Probably related to spending 3-4 hours yesterday digging, chopping, and sawing out the gigantic stump in front of Carol's with the help of Si... but I've felt like this a lot recently. The 6 days off with the calf pain and the infrequency of my runs ever since and the constant eating and leaning over for hours on end to do the puzzle that came in the wrong box and the sleeping in a too soft bed, and the week's worth of ax swinging, and the travel and lack of motivation are all making running so un-fun right now. I'm debating committing to race the mile at TJ in early February to see if I can find some focus and motivation to get out more frequently in the coming month. The thought of speed, though, just sounds so demoralizing... (Hope you aren't reading this kids...) On a different note, though, despite how crumby I felt on the run today, I loved it. I loved the amazing Petaluma, CA Christmas time weather which starts with frost and ends with 60 each sunny day. I loved the charming bungalows of Petaluma with their Christmas decorations and flowers. I loved going into the hills and willing myself up them at that dreadful, tired pace, and seeing the cows and the green hills and hearing the silence. It has been a very nice trip so far and I'm sad to be leaving tomorrow.
