FLRC Winter Chill 5k #2

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: High 20s

Comments:
Made it out to the Second FLRC Winter Chill 5k today. I woke up and reallly wanted to go back to sleep, but made myself do it. Showed up, got my bid, registered. Signing up for the Winter Chill 5k series is the same as a FLRC 1 year membership, so I guess I'll be doing a lot more races this year. Anyway, got a decent warmup in. Personally, though, I always feel most warmed up after a couple miles. Started of the race a little too fast, I think. I really need to find that balance between too fast and too slow for a start. Unfortunately, I started to fatigue after about a mile, and my pace slowed down. I tried to keep pushing myself, but I didn't have much energy left. It was miserable. I kept wondering why I did this sport, and really wanted to just quit running. I got passed by two women who seemed to be having a leisurely conversation, and were wearing animal costumes because apparently there was a theme to the race this week. That didn't do much for my confidence. Not the fact that they were women (a woman won the race today, which was cool) but because they were talking and didn't seem to be going 100%. They must've been in pretty good shape, I guess. I never understand why people talk during a race. At least, when it's a competitive one, unlike this one. Back to the race. Well, I made it back to the finish line, but was not happy at hall with my time. I mean, it was 30 seconds faster than last year, but I would expect a lot more. I also thought that my fairly frequent running over the winter wouldn't really make me lose any fitness. I've been having an up and down past couple of months with regards to my health, so that has not allowed me to always run as much as I can. I'm just tired of not improving. I ran a 21:20 at the Andris on a similar course at the same location as today. WHY AM I NOWHERE NEAR THAT? I was feeling especially faster that day, and I'd guess winter running is a little slower, but still...Of course, once I finished, all of those thoughts about quitting running vanished, and now I'm motivated to get back to work, only to want to quit during my next race. What a cycle. I did a cooldown, and I felt really tired during it, so at least my effort was good today.

Played basketball for 45 minutes when I got home.
Did some good stretching too.

Pretty sure I popped a blood vessel on my left pinky while attempting the Michael Phelps arm swing with a bowling ball in each hand. One of the balls hit me right on my pinky finger. I was at Atlas Bowl for my mom's birthday celebration. NOT a smart idea. A stupid idea. It's all black and blue and swollen right not. At least I'm right handed.

Did 50 calf raises on a ladder rung before going to bed, both legs at once. Also did 40 pushups.
