January 19, 2017 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 50 and falling dusk
Comments:
Started the distance group off slowly and together, but allowed the pace to build gradually as we took Glover to the River and various groups turned back. Extended along the Crescent to 34th Street and stayed on the streets until Glover Park when we ducked over to Tunlaw and eventually back into Glover from there. The obvious darkness forced me to send my companions (Silas, Jackson, Jack, Frankie, Noah G, and ?) home via New Mexico and Nebraska. I took Glover the rest of the way from Cathedral Ave alone (except for the deer who was standing 1 yard off the trail and nearly startled the bejeebers out of me.) I picked up the pace noticeably at this point and surged as I got onto Vann Ness. I looped a bit at Nebraska to look for the boys, but plunged down 42nd towards school. By St. Columbas, I convinced myself they were behind me and returned back to Nebraska Ave. Not finding them, I doubled back again to school to find them going home. The conversation for nearly the entire run was a word game of naming geographic locations. Pace mid trail southbound was sub 8. Pace in last mile up Glover was 7:30ish. Pace for zig zagging was sub 7. Pace for last half mile was 6:35. Felt good to get in a longer than usual run and I enjoyed finishing strong. I did feel healthfully fatigued at night.
